Two more Knit Stars exclusive yarns: The Uncommon Thread and Malabrigo

We first discovered The Uncommon Thread at a retreat last year. Of all the yarns we picked up in the marketplace, this was the one we couldn’t put down: "Heavenly DK.”

Heavenly DK completely lives up to its name with a supremely soft hand, slight shine, smooth, plied construction and fuzzy halo. It takes dye beautifully and has lovely drape, making it perfect for shawls and garments.

Owner Ce Persiano says, "my grey range is what made me... ahem… famous. I've been asked for a 'nearly white' and with the Star theme I thought this would be the right time to release it!” Our Knit Stars exclusive color, “Starlight” dyed on Heavenly DK, is 246 yards (100 grams), DK/8 ply, 70% camelid-alpcaca, 20% silk, 10% cashmere.  As a special bonus, Designer Alicia Plummer will be offering a discount code on a beautiful shawl pattern that is perfectly paired with this yarn."

About The Uncommon Thread, Ce writes, "I started The Uncommon Thread in September 2010 after knitting for a few years, then discovering Ravelry and becoming thoroughly addicted – particularly with knitting with luxury hand-dyed yarns. I love colours, texture and I’m passionate about knitting. We are an artisan company and dye all our yarns lovingly by hand in our studio in Brighton, England. I am very passionate about the environment and aim to minimise the impact I have on it. I simmer the yarns for a long time so that as much dye as possible can bond with the fibres, rather than going down the drain. Our mailing bags are 100% biodegradable and our tags made from 100% post consumer waste – not only that, they are beautiful too! Our British breeds yarns are spun locally, so have few ‘wool miles’ and some are even spun in a mill partly powered by water.”

Our next exclusive Knit Stars yarn comes from name you probably know: Malabrigo! We were thrilled when Malabrigo’s color genius, Antonio, agreed to create an all-new color just to celebrate Knit Stars. Meet “Estrella.”

As with most Malabrigo yarns, it’s impossible to capture the depth of this multi blue-to-violet. It will be dyed on Malabrigo Sock, a soft, smoothly-plied, lightweight sock yarn spun from luxurious merino and treated to make it machine washable for easy care. Don’t be fooled by the name- while it’s certainly a treat for the feet, this delightful yarn is also a particular favorite for shawls and scarves! Each 100g skein has 440 yards and a stated gauge of 32 stitches to 4 inches.

Malabrigo is a family-owned yarn company located in Uruguay that has  developed a line of hand-dyed yarns of incredible softness and wonderful color variations. Malabrigo yarns are made out of the softest fibers available and inspired by nature, landscapes, places, art and everyday life. They say, "We produce yarn because we are passionate about it. We believe in the pleasure of knitting with good-quality, carefully designed, subtly painted yarns and in the joy of wearing whatever is made out of them. Our wish is to continue developing yarns and colors to inspire people around the world, and to be inspired by them in return.”
