We recently wrapped up a very full day of shooting in Austin, Texas with Meghan Fernandes.
Did we mention, a VERY full day? Even the kitty was exhausted!
Meghan designs patterns for hand-knitting, writes, teaches, and lectures about all things wooly. But mostly she's the co-founder and editor of independent knitting magazine Pom Pom Quarterly. Meghan is a former American transplant to London, where she lived for a decade. Now back in her native land, she is at the helm of Pom Pom in North America.
While in London she wrote her MA dissertation on knitting in 20th century women's literature and worked for a publisher, a gallery, and a knitting shop, leaving her with a random but particular set of skills that could really only lead to running a knitting magazine! Her favourite things about running the magazine include photo shoots, testing out the cocktail recipes, and getting yarn in the mail.
For her Knit Stars shoot, we followed Meghan around Austin and explored the sites, sounds and smells (think barbecue!) that inspire her. Then we sat down in her personal studio and got to work on filming her hands-on instructional segments. Her topic for the Summit will be “Finishing Strong, Finishing in Style: How to Make Sure Your WIPs become FOs You’ll Actually Wear!” She’ll walk you through her favorite tips and tricks, from swatching, to reducing ends to weave in, to seaming, to styling.
If you missed the early bird signups for Knit Stars, don’t worry! You’ll have another chance to join the fun in August. If you're not already on our email list, click the button below to be notified when we open the next enrollment window!
