🎁 Scoop: Gift with purchase

Happy Scoop Day! I’ve got a really fun treat for you this week.

It’s a longstanding Loops (and now Knit Stars) tradition. The “kinder, gentler” Black-Friday-week-Surprise.

No 4am doorbusters or mobs. Just a fun, easy approach to the holiday season, along with some crafty, freebie goodness.

I’m really into stickers right now – on my laptop, my water bottle, my journal…so we decided to create the first-ever Knit Stars sticker sheet (designed by my hubs, Brent) and make it this year’s Black Friday Freebie!

Starting now through this Friday, make a purchase of $50+ from KnitStars.com (or in-store) and we’ll automatically include a gift of this inaugural Sticker Sheet. Spread your stickers everywhere so everyone can see you’re a Star!

Not sure what to buy? An easy choice is a Knit Stars gift card (to gift to someone else or to you!).

Or how about a chic beginner project to get a friend started? This brand-new project, “Easy Like Sunday Morning” Scarf, is made with soft, textural “Spun Cloud” art yarn from Knit Collage.

The Pattern: All you need is 1 skein of Spun Cloud and size #17 or #19 needles. Set aside 10 yards for fringe. Cast on 12 stitches, until yarn is almost used up, and bind off. Divide the 10 yards you set aside into 8 length, approx. 24” long per piece. Fold each in half and attach evenly across each end of scarf. You’re done!

Buy the kit here (including two new, exclusive Knit Stars colorways!) The pattern is free with your yarn purchase and will be sent to you via email.

In addition to the new colors of Spun Cloud, Amy and Shelley conspired to create a brand-new yarn to celebrate the grand opening of our Knit Stars Flagship Store! Meet “Star Spun.”

Amy told us, “Creating Star Spun yarn in collaboration with Shelley and her team was a dream come true! Shelley came to me with the idea and the palette, and I started spinning up samples. After some back and forth, we decided on a plied yarn with a fun, irregular texture.”

“You’ll see little bits of accent colors and sparkles throughout…and that is truly the fun of knitting with it – you never know what color or texture is coming next and no two areas of the yarn are alike because it is all handspun!”

“Once the initial yarn designs were finalized, I sent over the recipes to our small team of spinners in India to get started working on. Each skein of Star Spun is carded on our hand carders, then spun up by one of our spinners and finally steam set, checked for quality and labeled,” Amy said.

Amy shared this pic of her spinning team in India from Feb. 2020

“Star Spun” comes in three custom colorways and can be used to make the Easy Like Sunday Morning Scarf above – just note it has 80 yards instead of the 100 yards of the solid Spun Cloud, so you can either get 2 skeins of Star Spun, or modify your scarf (use #19 needles, cast on 10 stitches instead of 12, and skip the fringe).

Want to play with both yarns in all of our custom colorways? Grab our Sunrise Chevron Shawl kit and make this show-stopper – simple, quick and oh-so-satisfying to knit.

Need a quick gift idea for the aspiring ballerina (or mini fashionista) in your life? Cassidy created this simple Prima Ballerina Set that makes the whole set – legwarmers plus headband – from just one skein of “Star Spun!” Just pick out your skein of Star Spun here and request the free pattern at checkout.

Bulky, textural sweaters are super on-trend right now. Star Trooper Kate made her own version of “Big Love,” by Cheryl Kubat on Ravelry, and added her own Star! For her version, Kate used size 15 needles, 2 skeins of Spun Cloud in Blush, 1 skein of Spun Cloud in Vanilla, and one skein each of two colors Wildflower fabric yarn.

Better yet…plan your trip to our new 6,000-square-foot Knit Stars Flagship Store and pick out your Knit Collage project in person! Here’s a handy guide to help you plan your trip. See you soon!

I remember when I first met Yumiko Alexander, at a trade show a few years back. Her booth literally stopped me in my tracks. Her designs were so fresh and wearable, I swear I wanted to make every single one!

Plus, they were made with my favorite luxury fibers – silk and linen – and she had an innate sense for letting each fiber do its thing, creating the easy draped silhouettes I most love to wear year-round. Reminiscent of Eileen Fisher, but in elevated fibers with the creative flair of a hand-knit.

That’s why we were so excited when Yumiko agreed to design the December Knit Stars Club kit! It will include two skeins of a luxury non-wool fiber dyed just for the Club, an original Yumi knit pattern, a collectible enamel pin, and an extra surprise.

We only open up Knit Stars Club a few times a year, and today’s the last day to join and get the December kit.

P.S. Check out the superstar designers who’ll be designing the patterns for our kits in 2022: Ambah O’Brien, Jennifer Berg, Äsa Söderman and Casapinka!

Amy Small of Knit Collage shared her fave Thanksgiving recipe. She warns, “It’s so addictive!” and it’s also vegan and gluten-free! Perfect way to end your meal in a way everyone can enjoy ❤️

Autumn Sweet Potato Pie with Pecan Crust
From Clean Food by Terri Walters. Photo by backyardowl.com

Ingredients:
CRUST

  • 1 1/2 cups pecans
  • 1/4 cup chickpea flour
  • 2 tablespoons maple syrup
  • 2 tablespoons melted coconut oil
  • pinch of sea salt or pink salt

FILLING

  • 1 (398 mL) can pureed organic sweet potato (look for a BPA-free liner)
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup + 2 tablespoons (reserved)
  • 1/4 cup canned coconut milk
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon sea salt or pink salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon allspice
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon agar powder

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350 F.
  2. Whirl pecans in a food processor until finely ground.
  3. Scoop pecans into a bowl, and add chickpea flour, stirring until combined.
  4. Add maple syrup, coconut oil, and sea salt and mix until dough is moist.
  5. Press dough into a pie pan (I did not grease the pan, as the dough seemed to have enough natural oil), and don’t forget to press up the edges of the pan as well.
  6. Bake crust for 12 minutes and let slightly cool while preparing filling.
  7. In a large bowl, mix together canned sweet potato puree, coconut milk, vanilla, salt, spices, cornstarch, and agar. Mix well.
  8. Scoop filling into prepared crust, smooth, and return to oven. Bake for 50 minutes to 60 minutes (or perhaps longer, depending on your oven) until the top of the filling looks firm and slightly browned. Note that this filling will firm up as the pie cools.
  9. Serve warm, or store in the fridge for up to 5 days.
  10. Before serving, drizzle with remaining 2 tablespoons maple syrup (the pie itself isn’t overly sweet, so this gives it a little flavour boost).
