🧶Sneaking in stitches

Have you ever snuck away to a hiding place to knit, dear reader?

The car…the craft closet…maybe even the bathroom?

When my kids were small, I would make deals with myself. I’d allow myself to knit after all the laundry was done (but is laundry really ever done???) or if I got the kids in bed by 8 (but then I was so exhausted, I often fell asleep before I could finish a row!)

Why do we do these things? And what will it take for the makers of the world – especially women – to prioritize our making as the superpower and necessary self-care it truly is?

Giving you permission to make and permission to SHINE is why we created our newest innovation called ✨The Yarniverse ✨

It’s the magic of Knit Stars Masterclasses, but all year round and at a really affordable price – just $39 to get started and get instant access to 50+ Star workshops plus weekly lives and quarterly makealongs.

This week, we opened a pop-up Yarniverse Facebook Group, and the pure joy and creative freedom that’s already palpable and popping off of that page brings me happy tears!

Also this week, we’re offering a 14-day trial of the Yarniverse for just $1. Yep, one buckaroo! That’s how much we believe in this thing we’re creating together.

It’s how much I believe in you, your creativity and your growth.

Get the Yarniverse $1 trial here while it lasts.

And remember…winning isn’t always finishing. You win just by showing up – even if it’s only to make one stitch or watch one inspiring video.

xoxo,

Hi, my name is Shelley and I have a rose gold Joji bag obsession 🙋‍♀️

The first time I laid eyes on the oh-so-subtle shimmer of Joji + Co’s rose gold Argentine leather, I was smitten. The way it seems to have a glow from within, feels like there must be something magical inside.

And then when I added one (or two…) to my collection, I was even more obsessed – with the quality, the endurance and (dare I admit) that amazing smell.

So when the Joji folks agreed to make their famous Envelope Bag in rose gold with a special logo emboss just for us…well my collection just got even better!

We have 50 of these beautiful, hand-made project bags to offer, each with the matching strap included, so you can carry it either as a clutch or a crossbody bag. It can hold comfortably any 3-4 skein project.

One thing I really love is the bag doesn’t have a top closure to catch on my yarn. Instead, it folds down and is kept closed with a leather strap and clasp. And the strap is beautifully embossed to show all the world you’re a Knit Star!

And because I believe every project bag deserves a gorgeous project, we’re offering the option for you to order your bag bundled with a 1-skein Joji project, ready to go!

If you choose the bag + project bundle, you’ll get a skein of Spun Right Round sock yarn in colorway “Topcoat Candy” to make Joji’s design, “The Lone Skein Shawl.” We’ll gift you the pattern pdf (and ensure Joji gets the sales proceeds through Ravelry’s LYS program).

The Lone Skein Shawl alternates bands of slipped stitches, garter stitches and short rows. Suitable for advanced beginners or anyone looking for a beautiful, satisfying knit! You’ll need #7 US needles.

P.S. If you’re a Rose Gold lover like me, check out this Rose Gold Lover’s Add-On collection we’ve put together in celebration of this new bag! (Bag sold separately).

Roasted Cod with Cashew Coconut Lime Topping

I’ve always been a fish lover, but ever since I moved to Florida I’ve become a bit of a fanatic. After living in land-locked Oklahoma all those years, to have access to fish that was in the ocean this morning is so amazing.

But I’m mindful of all those years of less accessible seafood access, so I was especially excited to find this recipe that uses cod – a delicious, firm white fish that’s readily available at most groceries across the US. And bonus, it’s usually quite affordable compared to other fish.

On top of all that…I think this simple, Caribbean-inspired dish from Valerie Bertinelli via the Food Network might be my absolute favorite fish recipe, ever. The coconut-cashew-lime-cilantro topping combines all of my favorite flavors but doesn’t compete with the flavor of the fish. Try it tonight with any firm white fish (we used Scamp, my favorite local variety of grouper).

Topping

  • 3/4 cup roasted salted cashews, finely chopped
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened flaked coconut
  • 2 teaspoons olive oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon curry powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 2 teaspoons finely grated lime zest
  • 3 tablespoons chopped fresh cilantro

FIsh

  •  Olive oil, for the pan
  •  2 pounds skinless cod fillet, cut into 4 evenly-sized pieces
  • Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon ground coriander
  • 1/2 teaspoon curry powder
  • Lime wedges, for serving

Instructions

  1. For the topping: Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F and line a baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. Toss the cashews and coconut with the oil, curry powder and salt in the baking pan. Bake, stirring once or twice, until the coconut is golden brown, about 5 minutes (be careful, it can burn quickly towards the end). Stir in the lime zest and cool completely. Transfer to a bowl and stir in the cilantro.
  3. For the fish: Increase the oven temperature to 425 degrees F and line a baking pan with parchment paper.
  4. Drizzle the parchment with olive oil and place the fish on top. Sprinkle all over with salt and pepper, turning the fillets to coat them with the oil. Sprinkle the top of the fish with the coriander and curry powder, then roast until the cod is just cooked through and flakes apart easily, 12 to 15 minutes.
  5. Serve the fish with the cashew coconut topping and lime wedges on the side.
