🧶 Spring’s “it” top with Tamara’s Tip

Don’t you just feel like dancing after that record-smashing Hot Loops Wall Reveal? 💃

This community came forward in a BIG way to show love for the Iconic Orange Lady (and still is showing up!). GG admitted she was a little nervous that you wouldn’t embrace her “orange-forward” project wall – and you showed up and showed out!!!

In the wake of all the excitement, GG and Adella (@lolabeanyarnco) have been talking a lot about how this new Wall, in particular, represents deep collaboration within the fiber community.

One of those fantastic community members is Terra Mitchell of Mitchell’s Creations.

GG remembers watching Terra years ago on Periscope – wow, throwback! – back when Terra only had one dye pot in her backyard.

Even then, she knew Terra would be a force to be reckoned with.

One of Terra’s big pulls to the fiber communities was to create colorways that she didn’t see anywhere else.

Once she knew that orange would be the inspiration for the Spring Hot Loops wall, she was off to the races. Gathering inspiration from everything from the painting “Uptown New Orleans” by Diane Milsap to her favorite pie, Sweet Potato Pie, there was no shortage of ideas for this wall.

Mitchell’s Creations Audubon DK is THE yarn that everyone ooh’s and aah’s over in the store (it’s the 50% silk, y’all!) so there was no question that we wanted it to be a part of the wall.

And what a big part it was!

Terra has already gone back to the dye pots for reorders – expected in this coming week and available for pre-order! Plus, we’ve added more pairings for the kits!

The “Crochet Quartz Pullover” from Alexandra Tavel is the perfect beginner-level crochet project. The only techniques involved are half-double crochet and single crochet, making this a fly-off-the-hook creation.

Not only is this a fast project, but it will be a staple in your wardrobe this spring and summer. The light, breezy, and elegant shape is perfect for transitioning from day to night effortlessly.

We created this project in the color “Sweet Potato Pie” but it would be gorgeous in any of the re-stocked colorways from Mitchell’s Creations Audobon DK!

For this project you will need 7 of any one color of Mitchell’s Creations Audobon DK and a size J (6mm) crochet hook.

Choose your hand-dyed color here.

Are you more of a knitter than a crocheter, but HAVE to have your own Quartz Pullover? Check out this tip from Season 3 Knit Star Tamara Kelly, who walks you through how to do the simple, single crochet stitch and half-double crochet stitch.

Coincidentally those are the only two stitches needed for the “Crochet Quartz Pullover.” 👀

We can’t wait to see your finished projects!

A project that looks like brioche but isn’t? Sign us up!

A Break in the Tide Shawl by Tif Nielan is a bottom-up constructed, triangle shawl featuring a simple garter stitch with sections of Fisherman’s rib and variations of slip stitch to – you guessed it – break the tide, or rhythm in this case.

We sold out of the original pairing, but more is on the way this week, so go ahead and pre-order! Or choose one of these other great pairings:

🧡 “Broken Arrow” with “Love Me” for a bold GG orange
🧡 “Broken Arrow” with Gingersnaps for a softer orange option
🧡 “Broken Arrow” with “Love Me” for a vibrant summer pairing

Purchase your kit here.

Today is the last day to use your coupon code from your Hot Loops Ticket purchase or the Hot Loops Recording purchase! You can still purchase the recording after today but the coupon code expires at midnight on April 17th.

Garlic Butter Shrimp

“Chef Google” came through again for our teammate Sherri with this recipe! The “Garlic Butter Shrimp” from damndelicious-dot-net is a super simple weeknight dinner that you can whip together in 20 minutes or less!

Ingredients:

  • 8 ounces fettuccine
  • 1 pound medium shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • 8 tablespoons (1 stick) unsalted butter, divided
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
  • 2 cups baby arugula
  • 1/4 cup freshly grated Parmesan
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley leaves

Directions:

  1. In a large pot of boiling salted water, cook pasta according to package instructions; drain well.
  2. Season shrimp with salt and pepper, to taste; set aside.
  3. Melt 2 tablespoons butter in a large skillet over medium high heat. Add garlic, oregano and red pepper flakes, and cook, stirring frequently, until fragrant, about 1-2 minutes.
  4. Add shrimp and cook, stirring occasionally, until pink, about 2-3 minutes; set aside.
  5. Melt remaining 6 tablespoons butter in the skillet. Stir in pasta, arugula and Parmesan until arugula begins to wilt, about 2 minutes. Stir in shrimp.
  6. Serve immediately, garnished with parsley, if desired.

P.S. We’ve got some fun information about Local Yarn Store Day coming your way next week, so keep your eyes peeled! 👀

xoxo
