🧶Fabulousness and Fuwa Fuwa

If you take nothing else away from this week’s newsletter, let it be this:

Go follow the fabulous Nancy Ricci @gettingpurlywithit.

This woman knows how to squeeze the most juice out of life!

For the online debut of the new Hot Loops Wall collection last week, Nancy put on a knockout black gown and mixed herself a cocktail.

Then she shared her play-by-play with the world on Instagram, lifting up Rachelle of Moondrake (our featured dyer) and each of the designers we spotlighted.

What an absolutely class act! And how lucky are we all that she’ll be teaching in Knit Stars Season 8?  ✨

P.S. Shown below is a sneak peek of the top Nancy will teach you to make in her upcoming workshop “Nothing But Rectangles.” If you’re not yet signed up for Season 8, click here to get notified when we re-open signups this fall.

So…are you curious about the hottest of the hot sellers from the new Hot Loops Wall?

Last week we gave you a quick overview of the projects. This week, let’s dive in a little deeper from a fiber perspective, focusing on the yarn that seems to have captured the quickest attention.

(Important: Many colors sold out on debut night, BUT! Rachelle has agreed to dye a second batch – just make sure to get your order in today to be guaranteed the colors you want.)

The #1 selling yarn was Rachelle’s luscious “Fuwa Fuwa”, named for the fluffy Japanese pancakes. You’ve really gotta touch this fluffy, brushed cashmere/merino to believe it! It knits up uber-lofty and lightweight, like wearing a cloud. And it’s versatile enough to hold up to a variety of gauges.

Our three Fuwa Fuwa tops were neck-and-neck for most popular project on the Wall. “Elton Pullover,” by Joji Locatelli, “Pappus” by Midori Hirose, and “Willa” by This. Bird. Knits.

Personally, I’ve also become obsessed with this Balloon Cardigan by PetiteKnit, which would take 4, 5, 5, 5, 6 skeins of Fuwa Fuwa for sizes XS, S, M, L, XL.

Want to try out Fuwa Fuwa yarn on a lower-commitment project? Make “Pappus Shrug” by Midori Hirose or “Porcupine Ridge” by Elizabeth Elliot. Both patterns are on Ravelry and take only 1 skein of Fuwa Fuwa for each pattern (!!!)

Shop our custom collection of Fuwa Fuwa plus all the other Hot Loops yarns here before the re-order window closes tonight.

Remember, if your fave color is showing sold out, you can click through to the pre-order page and have the yarn in your hot little hands in just a few weeks.

This week in the Yarniverse, we had an extra-special “Yarn Bestie” LIVE! featuring special guests Gaye Glasspie @ggmadeit and Adella Colvin @lolabeanyarnco …

It was so special to hear them talk about the origin of their yarn connection that’s blossomed into the kind of friendship where they facetime four times a day and complete each other’s sentences.

And it was so cool to see Yarnies inside the chat connecting and forming their own friendships before our eyes! I was so touched and inspired, I’ve been thinking ever since of how we can add a “yarn bestie” component to the Yarniverse, where you might find a pen pal (nearby or around the world) who can support your biggest yarn dreams and life goals alongside you through thick and thin. More to come on that in the near future.

Curious about Yarniverse Founding membership? Check out this page with all the details.

Nancy’s favorite cocktail

I thought it would be fun to ask Nancy Ricci @gettingpurlywithit for her favorite cocktail recipe, and of course she came through!

“I do have a favorite cocktail recipe, I actually am having one right now,” she wrote to me. “It’s very easy to make, my version of Piña Colada.”
Ingredients
  • fresh juice from one pineapple which I make with my juicer
  • half a cup of Bacardi Rum (white rum)
  • half a cup of cream of coconut from the brand Coco Lopez
  • 6 to 8 ice cubes
Mix it all in a blender. That’s it!
“Serve it in a glass with a straw and a little colorful umbrella.”
