🧶A seed…and growing together

A Yarn Story in 3 Chapters
Chapter 3

Dear faithful reader,

Eighteen years ago I planted a seed…a humble little yarn store with a big dream. To honor the craft that’s given me so much joy, and to share that joy with other like-minded people.

Like everything that grows, so much has evolved over those 18 years… Together we’ve grown new shoots, blossomed into flowers, and learned to shine.

In our case, we started as Loops and have evolved to Knit Stars… growing from just selling the yarns, to picking up the camera and telling the yarns…

We connect learners and teachers across continents, shining a light on the Stars and Makers doing the most amazing things around the world.

More and more, we’ve focused on doing our part to help the rising tide lift more boats. Our world has seen a phenomenal rise in indie dyers…so many new artists doing beautiful things with fiber.

Seeing our industry thrive, seeing so many makers grow in so many ways is what truly lights us up. As in every industry that grows and matures…there’s room for everyone to specialize, and blossom. Together we adapt into a beautiful ecosystem!

It’s a Yarniversal Truth: When we all focus on what we’re best at, everyone wins.

So here at Knit Stars, we’ve decided to do what we do best: Telling yarns, full time.

In 2024, we’ll be producing another groundbreaking masterclass series. Season 9: Permission to Shine will be filmed in Shetland, Ireland, Italy, and points all across North America, with the high production levels you’ve come to expect only from Knit Stars.

For the first time, we’ll release some of the new workshops early, starting in July. So our fans who sign on for Season 9 as Earlybirds will have more space to savor each workshop.

Inside our new Yarniverse membership, you’ll be able to go even deeper with fresh, fun weekly content. Frog with the Stars, Style with the Stars, Shine with the Stars…all year round.

And the free Sunday newsletter you love, that I’ve written every week for 18 years…will get a new name: Shelley’s Sunday Yarns. Instead of selling yarn, we’ll purely be lifting up the personal stories of the creators in our space, curating the best projects and products, and pointing you directly to the makers and designers so you can support them.

We at Knit Stars are a small but mighty team. So we can focus on what we’re best at, filmmaking, curation and online community – our physical store is closing December 31. While it can be hard to close the chapter on any book, this one comes with an exciting sequel, where we get to shine an even brighter light on the craft we all love. And our Masterclass kit program will continue, bigger and better than ever…more on that coming soon.

Sharing yarn stories and learning across the globe. Deepening our appreciation for our craft and for one another. This magic is what we most love to make – and we can’t wait to do even more of it!

This life is an amazing one, always unfolding…and I couldn’t be more grateful and excited to explore this next chapter with you. I hope you’ll dive in with me for this next step in knitting and crocheting the world together.

Love,

Here are some things to keep in mind as we turn the page and prepare for the next exciting chapter…

✨ In 2024, our focus as a team will be producing another groundbreaking Masterclass (Season 9), serving our Yarniverse membership and writing a weekly newsletter that inspires, curates and builds connections in our space.

✨ The Flagship (physical) store in Tulsa will be opened the following hours through the holidays: Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays: 11am – 5pm. Thursdays: 11am – 7pm. CLOSED Monday, 12/25.

✨ Although the physical store will no longer be open after 12/31, you can continue to shop online at LoopsLove.com through February, or until stock sells out. We encourage you to use any outstanding gift cards ASAP.

✨ Our Masterclass Kit program will continue in 2024, bigger and better than ever! Note that gift cards cannot be applied to Masterclass preorders.

✨Early last week, our team announced we’ll be taking a short break from social media so we can rest and restore with our families over the holidays. We will still be answering emails at hello@knitstars.com but responses may be a little slower than usual.Thank you so much for your ongoing support of our mission!

As we shared in last week’s newsletter, the Yarniverse has given back to more than 32 nonprofits this year! And in 2024, we’ll be rolling out lots of exciting new features inside our Yarniverse membership! Get ready to…

Easiest Ever Cranberry Chutney

I grew up on my mom’s “cranberry salad” each Thanksgiving and Christmas. I’m not sure how it ever got the name “salad” since it’s really jell-o in a fancy mold with cranberries. I haven’t had much of a chance to get out of the cranberry box over the years. That’s why I was so excited to discover this ultra-simple cranberry chutney at Luke’s family Thanksgiving in Nebraska. It’s so fresh-tasting, pretty on the table and ridiculously simple! His Uncle Mark swears by it on a “leftover sandwich” of white bread, turkey, mayo and chutney.

Ingredients

  • 1 orange
  • 1 apple
  • 1 package fresh cranberries
  • 1.5 – 2 cups sugar, to taste

Instructions

  1. Put all of the above into a food processor – yes, rind, seeds and all! – and pulse until you have a texture you like. Enjoy and happy holidays to all!
