🧶How many of these are in your phone
BY SHELLEY BRANDER
Today we’ve just opened the final enrollment period for Knit Stars Season 11: Your Season of Genius.
And if you’re game, I’d love for you to try a little experiment with me.
The idea occurred to me when I was scrolling back through my photos from the past few months of traveling and filming, and I noticed something.
Amidst all the photos of Charles Barkley 🐶, the screenshots of high-protein recipes, and the photos of other people, there was something noticeably missing…
Me.
There were almost no pictures of me, in my own phone.
Reflecting back, I can think of a couple reasons for this.
One is that, for the past year, I’ve been dealing with a mysterious skin condition that creates large, scaly patches on my face and random bald spots on my scalp. (Had a biopsy and bloodwork this week, so hopefully will have answers soon).
The other is, I recently ended a 4-year relationship. And even though I’m grateful for so much that came out of it, there’s still grief involved. So all in all, I haven’t been in much of a selfie mood.
But all of the pictures of other people in my phone got me thinking about how easy it is to fall into prioritizing everything else but ourselves.
So let’s try something together.
Open your phone’s photo app and look for recent pictures of you. Are there any that you really love…where someone has caught that sparkle in your eye or the joy in your heart…
…or maybe even one where you’re wearing one of your amazing yarn creations and feeling your full creative self??
Now do this with me…
Scroll back into your phone, as far as you need to go, to find a photo of you feeling really gorgeous, preferably wearing something you’ve made.
📸Screenshot it to pull it to the front of your photos.
Now for the last three months of this year, make a little promise to yourself to consciously re-prioritize yourself in your photo roll.
Feeling good on your morning walk or when you get dressed up? Snap a selfie. Working on your latest project? Document your progress with a photo and include your smiling face. Hanging out with friends? Grab a group shot – and include yourself. Taking a family photo during the holidays? Make sure you’re in it, too.
