Knitting gone viral: Shelley’s TED talk! 🗣

BY SHELLEY BRANDER

Our “weird little hobbies” have much more power than we realize. By connecting with others who share our passions, we truly can save the world. ❤

Shelley wrote this TEDx talk last year, just before COVID hit. The talk was postponed by the organizers again and again…but finally, she got to deliver it on stage and it was just released on the TED site!

Now, dear yarn friends, we need your help to spread the word! With 3 quick, simple steps, you can help Shelley promote positive change through knitting:

STEP 1: Click here to watch Shelley’s short TED talk on YouTube…

STEP 2: While you’re there, give it a quick 👍 and a comment…

STEP 3– IMPORTANT: Click the Share button from YouTube and spread the word on your own Social channels!

Thanks for coming to my TED talk – for real! 🤣

xoxo,

The minute we saw MDK’s Kay Gardiner post about her new, easiest-of-the-easy modern baby blankets (made over “two weeks of Zoom meetings” according to Kay!), we envisioned a version made in our new Knit Stars color palette.

And magically, Margaret from the Troops brought the blanket to life!

“A Quick Stripey Baby Blanket” is a free pattern on Ravelry, and we’ve put together new kits in this perfect, gender-neutral palette with ultra-soft, washable Modern Cotton yarn.

Yours is 💯 sure to be the best gift at the baby shower!

It’s every knitter’s dilemma when a baby is on the way… knit a baby blanket by hand, or pick up one of those ridiculously soft, plush blankets off the shelf at your nearest baby boutique…

This week, we’ve got another blanket idea that gives you the best of both worlds – and it’s 100% sure to become the “heavily loved” blanket that baby is still carrying around with them when they head off to college someday!

Margaret made this simple, super-quick baby blanket with 4 balls of Wool Addicts Liberty, a cotton yarn with fun, “feel-me” texture that shines even in simple garter stitch.

The result is an irresistibly soft, washable blanket you can easily whip up in a weekend – and for less than $60!

Pick up 1 ball x 4 colors of Liberty yarn here.

This is a recipe for kids, grownups, and knitters that need fuel in the middle of a knit-a-thon!

“3-Ingredient No Bake Peanut Butter Bars” from Shane Simple are a fun activity for the family to make together. Or make ahead for a week’s worth of filling treats.

Ingredients:
1 cup peanut butter
½ cup maple syrup
3 cups rolled oats

Directions:
1. Line an 8×8 or 9×9 baking dish with wax paper or parchment paper. You could also use a loaf pan if you wish.

2.In a small saucepan over medium heat, stir the peanut butter and maple syrup together for a few minutes until it’s smooth.

3. To a large bowl, add the peanut butter mixture to the oats and stir until everything is well combined.

4. Pour the mixture into the prepared pan and press evenly into the baking dish. Place in the refrigerator until set, cut into squares, and enjoy.

*Add in extra treats like coconut flakes, dried cranberries, or chocolate chips! Store on the counter for 5 days, or in the fridge for a week.
