🧶Let’s show the world what we’re made of

BY SHELLEY BRANDER

I don’t know about you…

But my whole life, I’ve listened to tropes, the stereotypes, the passive-aggressive digs.

“Knitting? Where’s your rocking chair?”

“Oh look at you with your yarn, that’s so cute. I thought that was a lost art.”

“I could never sit still that long.”

So, I AM READY.

Ready to show the world that we’re more than “just” knitters and crocheters. We’re each brilliant, wildly creative human beings living rich, multi-faceted lives. 💪

Ready to show the world that we’re everywhere in the world! We just did a new count, and we now have Knit Stars Season owners in 65 countries and counting. This craft we share is practiced, practically everywhere. 💥

Ready to show the world that we’re united in our caring and empathy for our fellow human beings, Yarnies are some of the most giving and thoughtful people I know. ❤️

It’s our 10th Anniversary Season, and I’m ready to go big. To make a statement – and an impact – the world cannot ignore.

So this year I set a B.H.A.G. – a Big, Hairy, Audacious Goal – to empower 10,000 Yarnies to say “YES” to themselves and their creative growth by enrolling in Knit Stars Season 10.

That’s almost double the number that have enrolled in any previous Season.

But like my friend Cheryl says, “If you don’t ask, you don’t get.”

And me, my team, our Stars, and our Star Makers are pulling out every single stop to make it happen.

15 cinematic masterclasses filmed on 4 continents. Knit Stars and Crochet Stars.

A list of Stars that are about to make your jaw drop when they make the long-awaited announcement next Sunday, April 13th.

And I’m personally overseeing the development of the special yarns, kits, and Joji bags being created for Season 10, to make sure they are true collectors’ items.

I know there’s economic uncertainty everywhere, so we’ve held the line on costs and added more options and flexible payment plans. After all, one of the founding principles of Knit Stars is to make the best learning and inspiration more accessible to all

 “Be Yourself” mitts by knittinglotta

Next Sunday, April 13th, when you join the 1,783 others who’ve already signed on to Season 10 as Super Earlybirds last fall (without even knowing who the Stars would be), refresh your screen and you’ll see that number tick up.

And you’ll know you’ve brought us one step closer to that big audacious goal…one step closer to showing the world what Yarnies can do, when we link arms and step forward together.

And when we reach that goal of 10,000, we will 10X our donation to the 15 nonprofits around the world that our 15 Season X Stars have carefully and very personally selected. For a grand total of $150,000 in give-back.

Listen up, world. The Yarnies are coming. ✨

xoxo,

P.S. Here are the 15 nonprofits we are supporting in Season 10.

This “Art Deco Cowl” by Tressa Weidenaar came across my Instagram feed this past week, and something about it just spoke to me. The motif was eye-catching of course, but I think it was the creative color combination that really grabbed me.

I started following Tressa awhile back when Season 6 Star Jennifer Berg mentioned her to me. She’s definitely someone for you to keep an eye on – her designs are truly special. You can get the Art Deco Cowl design on Ravelry here.

And speaking of Ravelry…WOW y’all really showed up for my “birthday special” in last week’s newsletter! It was fun for me to see which of our patterns you snapped up on sale. One sleeper that surprised me a bit (because we didn’t feature it in the newsletter) was the Adrenaline Cowl.

This is a fun one for combining 4 random skeins of DK weight yarn from your stash. Any 4 colors will work together – complimentary or contrast. Have fun playing!

All of my patterns are on sale this month with coupon code STAR here.

SABAI top by Susanne MĂĽller

One last project that winked at me from Ravelry this week…

This SABAI Top by Susanne Müller went straight into my Favorites. I love the boatneck and the length, and it says it’s perfect for beginners (read: airplane knitting!). You can access it here.

This one is top secret, folks.

I got special permission from my boyfriend to share this. His grandmother Harriett, who was by all accounts an amazing cook, compiled a cookbook for her family, grandchildren and friends. For years, I’ve heard how amazing this recipe is…for, of all things, simple pork and beans. But like all of her recipes, this one has some special Harriett twists.

We made ours with pork loins instead of chops, and while it was still delicious, my boyfriend claims chops are better. You be the judge!

Pork Chops and Beans

Ingredients + Directions:

“Place two 1-pound cans baked beans in tomato sauce (such as Van Camp’s Pork and Beans) in a 13x9x2-inch baking dish. Prepare 5 or 6 lean rib pork chops. For each chop: Sprinkle with salt and pepper; spread lightly with mustard; next spread on some catsup and then sprinkle with brown sugar. Arrange chops over beans. With toothpick, attach a slice of onion and 1 slice of lemon to each chop. Bake in a slow oven (325F) about 1.5 hours or until chops are fork tender.”

“This is a great dish to put in the oven if you are going to be gone. Preparation is very little and all you need is a salad and some good bread. Family favorite.”
