Scoop: New LolaBean shipment 📦

New shipment of LolaBean “Pinto Bean” in Cygnet, Wedding Day Bouquet, Georgia Peach, Sugar & Spice, Fanciful, and Eccentric.

Hi,

How’s your December starting out?

Maybe you’ve had your head down, stitching away on holiday gifts…

And maybe you’ve been following what’s happening in our fiberverse, where once again, black makers have been mistreated, marginalized and mischaracterized by a prominent (white) influencer.

These makers are my close personal friends, women of deep integrity who spoke out in defense of others who were (understandably) too afraid to speak for themselves. So to see them attacked, well honestly…it makes it hard to write a lighthearted Scoop about things like new yarn and and a Club sale and a new knit night.

And yet. I take the sanctity of your inbox very seriously, and I know I’ve promised you a weekly Scoop full of inspiration and yarn-y joy.

So let me just ask that if you’ve heard rumblings or screenshots from gossip rags and are interested in really understanding and supporting, please start with these Instagram feeds: @callmedwj (the story highlight labeled, 🧶 + Research), @lolabeanyarnc @ggmadeit @ladydyeyarns and @creativececi.

Now, as for the yarn-y joy part…as luck would have it, we just received a new shipment of hand-dyed Pinto Bean DK-weight yarn from LolaBean Yarn Co. ❤️🎉

The word already leaked out, since we received the yarn into our inventory, and Adella’s followers peeped it! 👀 Luckily, she dyed 75 magical skeins of each colorway, so there’s still some left – or at least, as of this writing, there is.

                                                                                       🏃🏽‍♀️🏃‍♂️🏃🏽‍♀️🏃‍♂️🏃🏽‍♀️🏃‍♂️

And in addition to the four great pattern ideas Adella curated for her Hot Loops Wall, I went searching Ravelry and curated 3 great gender-neutral, gift-able patterns, perfect for Pinto Bean.

Raveler musingmanatee made two versions of “Conversationalist,” a free Ravelry hat pattern by the Plucky Knitter, using Pinto Bean. One version is two-tone and one is speckled only (on a smaller needle).

Here are a few pairing ideas to make your own two-toned versions (top to bottom, left to right):
Georgia Peach + Oatmeal Raisin
Cygnet + Smoke Show
Sugar & Spice + Lola’s Pink
Wedding Day Bouquet + Teal Me In
Eccentric + Birthday Suit
Fanciful + Adella’s Purple

And I’m super smitten with this “Over the Universe Cowl” by Susan Lin (also on Ravelry). You’ll need 3 skeins of Pinto Bean and/or Cool Beans DK. Here are a few pairing ideas:
Oatmeal Raisin + Cygnet + Smoke Show
Tin Roof Rusted + Eccentric + Birthday Suit
Wedding Day Bouquet + Sugar & Spice + Lola’s PInk
Tin Roof Rusted + Eccentric + Smoke Show

And last but not least, how about these simple “Friends” mitts by Dani Sunshine? Only takes 1 skein and the pattern is free on Ravelry. I think these would be especially amazing in “Cygnet” – they would go with pretty much any winter coat – camel, black, brown or even denim. 💗

Artichoke Chicken
Teresa, our Knit Stars Director of Operations, doesn’t cook often because her hubs is a fabulous cook. But she swears “even I can’t mess this up!” The recipe promises, “This is the most flavorful chicken you will ever have in your life. It is melt-in-your-mouth to die for!”

Ingredients:

  • 1 (15 ounce) can artichoke hearts, drained and chopped
  • 3/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 3/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 pinch garlic pepper
  • 4 skinless, boneless chicken breast halves

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
  2. In a medium bowl, mix together the artichoke hearts, Parmesan cheese, mayonnaise, and garlic pepper. Place chicken in a greased baking dish, and cover evenly with artichoke mixture.
  3. Bake, uncovered, for 30 minutes in the preheated oven, or until chicken is no longer pink in the center and juices run clear. Makes 4 servings.
