🧶What I’ve cast off lately

BY SHELLEY BRANDER

storm quote
How are you doing this week?
The last couple of weeks have, frankly, been a real doozie for me.
A couple of figurative hurricanes (recent breakup, mysterious skin condition) and then a literal one! 🌀
But the funny thing about storms, I’ve learned, is that they don’t all come to disrupt your life.
Sometimes they come to clear your path. 💕
So here are four things I’ve cast off this week, and what I’m making space for, next.
#1: Cast off catastrophizing.
Starting back in January, I had a random bald spot show up on my scalp. I went to my dermatologist, who biopsied it, and ruled it “hereditary” so I just stocked up on hair vitamins and serums – and the hair grew back in.
But then a couple months later, I had a pink, flaky patch pop up on my temple. Then another on my chin. Then came a new bald spot.
After 6 doctor visits and 3 biopsies, I got a diagnosis of something called “follicular mucinosis.” It’s extremely rare, but treatable. And, just as I was about to go down the google rabbit-hole (and open up a 32-ounce can of freak-out), I got a call from my friend Leigh Anne.
Leigh Anne came into my life a few months ago through yoga, and we just clicked. She’s even learned to knit from my Knit Start course – here she is, wearing her first scarf! 🥰

And get this…I knew Leigh Anne was a pharmaceutical rep, but what I didn’t know is that her drug is for my exact, very rare condition. 🤯
She got me in with one of the top doctors, about 4 hours from me in Birmingham, Alabama. The doc is running additional tests, and my skin is already improving. So much so, I felt cute enough to take a mirror selfie last week.
Which is all a great reminder to trust the process. 🙏
